Crypto Trading, Using & Creating
Every technological bubble has a speculation phase where there are more people betting on the future than using it. Then over time teams start to create tools to help people access the magic ✨
Our Balance crowdfunding is open for 3 weeks. You can join us here:

There seem to be 3 stages to everyone’s journey down the crypto rabbit hole:
😬 Speculation
🤯 Exploration
🤩 Creation
It nearly always starts with buying crypto on an exchange. Then people start reading about what they have. Eventually, people move some funds to a wallet. Then the exploration phrase begins. The excitement and frustration is palpable.
The transition from trading crypto to using it is fascinating. That is when people move beyond the charts and start engaging in with the systems.
When you vote on a proposal, take a loan, mint a new piece of art, or join a token-gated event, you are using crypto for something. That is hugely different from just clicking on numbers on a screen.
Creating With Ethereum
The next phase of addiction for me was when we started creating things with Ethereum that were simply not possible before. I wrote about my magical moment with DAI here:
At the end of last year, we prototyped a web-based wallet for ERC-20 tokens that were running on Ethereum. Shortly after that, Maker released the DAI stable coin which is pegged to the dollar. When I first loaded up the wallet with some digital dollars running on an open source protocol, something flickered in my brain

I think we had some great ideas for how to make Ethereum more useable. We were focused on the financial side which became known as “DeFi”:
Over time, a lot of wallets started publishing similar ideas, features & applications. They all raised extraordinary sums of money & many copied our ideas. Nevertheless, it was so exciting to see things actually working!
We were creating things with Ethereum and it felt amazing.
Balance helps you use Ethereum
We are totally focused on tooling for using and creating with Ethereum. We are not interested in trading or leveraged gambling. That use case is easy to design and terrible for most people—especially when you add leverage.
We are crafting tools for people who want to use Ethereum.
What will that look like? Well, it should show you how to use tokens properly: vote, debate, stake, curate and create entirely new tokens from scratch.
It should empower you with opportunity. Not overpower you greed.
The pixels and code to bring these ideas into focus will be coming soon.
