📉 How to Short Elon Musk 🚀 RIVN & RKLB
Rivian & Rocket Lab are going to soak up young engineers in the United States
SpaceX & Tesla seem unbeatable at this point—but I think something is changing.
Young people do not want to work for Elon.
I have friends who have worked at both companies. I have invested in SpaceX & been a customer of Tesla.
I have been *and still am* a huge fan of Elon for a long time but I have to face reality:
PEOPLE HATE ELON MUSK
He is the most unpopular person on the planet.
If I bring up Elon in conversation, there is a 90% chance someone winces.
Tesla has lost its shine. If you drive around Mill Valley all you see are Rivians.
Everyone has sold their Tesla.
Mill Valley is where the wealthy technocratic democrats go to hide from San Francisco’s streets.
Democrats Dominate Memetics
If you are a bright young engineer at Berkeley, Stanford or MIT (the engineering schools) there is a 90% chance you will vote blue.
Elon is red. Therefore Elon bad.
It really is that simple.
Chief Engineering Officers
RJ Scaringe is an M.S. and Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering.
Peter Beck “skipped college taking an apprenticeship at a tools manufacturer so he could learn to work with his hands, tinkering with model rockets and propellants in his free time.”
These are the kinds of men that can attract the best young engineers.
Founding Fathers
I am a big believes in founders who are fathers.
Both these men clearly have incredibly supportive partners in life.
Elon—by contrast—has never been able to maintain married life.
This adds complexity to a CEO’s existence.
RJ is focused on cars. Peter is focused on rockets.
The rest of their personal lives are—as far as I can see—straight forward.
🚘 Electrification & Constellations 🛰️
Each company is betting on a huge trend: electrification of transportation & the expansion of constellations.
Rivian is trading at $8bn vs Tesla at $670bn
Rocket Lab is trading at $3bn vs SpaceX at $150bn
I am going to start building my positions over the next couple years.
So, let’s come back to this prediction in 5 years!
Totally agree! I am a huge Elon fan. Just trying to accept the reality: young people are not.
Elon has helped ignite some positive thoughts however his thought process's and the certain aspects about the way he conducts business has not always resonated with me. I've heard the stories, good and bad. Some friends just about worship the guy. I do respect how he looks at challenges and develops ways of overcoming them but that is about the extent of it.
I've worked for people with his mindset and lifestyle choices. As a result their "fruit" (products/companies) can be as fragile as their relationships with people.
Elon aside, there is certainly room for more folks that are ready and willing to break into technology with their own contributions. The next microsofts, NVIDIAS's, BTC's and such.
