Why Prototypes Matter

Software designers convert ideas into light. A thought you have in the shower can end up giving everyone a new superpower. I am fascinated by the flow of creativity from inspiration to creation.
We use tools to converts ideas into pixels. These pixels light up the black mirrors we all put in our pockets. That light reaches your retinas. You are either confused or delighted.

Prototyping is an enormous part of designing. Apple has an entire team dedicated to prototyping. As Jiabao Li (李佳宝) puts it on her website:
At Human Interface Design Prototyping team at Apple, I explore new technologies and determine how they function within our current and future products. This is a small exploratory design team of hybrid designers/engineers.
We come up with ideas, invent and propose new features and products through drawing, animation, code, electronics, and models throughout the incubation process.
We design and build working, interactive prototypes to test, explain, and explore ideas for new hardware technologies across all of Apple's products.
We work cross-functionally with apple's user interface design, engineering, marketing, and executive teams to develop prototypes.
The really key thing I have learned over the years: The prototype you create to test an idea is NEVER the product you ship to a customer. Prototypes are tools that you use to communicate ideas inside your team and to a wider community of people. In the case of our wallet, we are trying to communicate something to developers.

Balance is prototyping
We are exploring the intersection of Safari, Ethereum, iPhone & Layer 2. We are deep in the bowels of iOS Extensions, EIP-1159, Swift code & new RPC providers. The work is rough and exploratory, not smooth and simple.
These prototypes are for our community of developers. They are meant to serve as concrete anchor points for conversations.
We want to persuade Ethereum developers to adapt their dapp for mobile.
We want to show them the power and privacy of Safari.
We want to help Apple understand Ethereum.
